PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

In the unique and hands-on environment of beer brewing, employees encounter specific physical demands and working conditions, including:

Manual labor: Beer brewing involves manual labor tasks such as lifting bags of grains, moving heavy equipment, and transferring large volumes of liquid, requiring physical strength and proper lifting techniques.

Standing for extended periods: Brewing operations often require employees to stand for long periods while performing tasks such as mashing, boiling, and fermenting, necessitating endurance and comfortable footwear.

Repetitive motions: Brewing processes involve repetitive motions such as stirring, mixing, and cleaning equipment, which can lead to strain or discomfort without proper ergonomic practices.

Operating machinery and equipment: Employees may operate various types of brewing equipment, including mash tuns, kettles, fermenters, and bottling lines, requiring training, focus, and adherence to safety protocols.

Exposure to hot and cold temperatures: Brewing facilities may have areas with high temperatures during brewing processes like boiling and areas with lower temperatures during fermentation and storage, requiring adaptability to varying environmental conditions.

Handling chemicals and cleaning agents: Brewing involves the use of chemicals and cleaning agents for sanitization and maintenance of equipment, necessitating knowledge of safety protocols and proper handling techniques.

Noise exposure: Brewing operations can be noisy, with the sound of machinery, pumps, and ventilation systems, requiring the use of hearing protection and the ability to communicate effectively amidst the din.

Use of forklifts and ladders: Employees may be required to operate forklifts to transport materials or use ladders to access elevated areas for maintenance or inspection, requiring training and adherence to safety guidelines.

Working at heights: Some tasks may require employees to work at heights, such as inspecting fermentation tanks or accessing storage areas, necessitating caution and adherence to fall protection measures.

Confined spaces: Brewing equipment may have confined spaces, such as fermentation tanks or storage vessels, which require proper ventilation and safety procedures when entering or working within them.
