Director of Human Resources/ Windsor

Russian River Brewing Company is seeking a full time, hands-on Director of Human Resources to join our team in Windsor! This position is a key member of the company’s management team at RRBC and drives the complete employment experience. Working closely with ownership, the Director of Human Resources makes recommendations and administers all policies, procedures and programs related to human resources for our company which has more than 100 employees in two locations in Sonoma County, California.  The Human Resources Director’s primary responsibilities include company culture management, administering payroll and benefits, compensation management, leaves of absence, full employment cycle management, compliance, and employee relations within the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers the human resources function and procedures for all company employees
  • Maintains Employee Handbook by making recommendations, updating, communicating changes to management and staff, and distributing
  • Responds to employees in a timely manner to inquiries regarding company policies, procedures, and programs
  • Makes recommendations to help improve employee work relationships and morale while increasing productivity and retention
  • Implements new internal, local, State and Federal policies as directed or when necessary
  • Handles all aspects of health benefits including administration, monitoring eligibility, new enrollments, renewals and open enrollment, terminations, COBRA and monthly reconciliations
  • Works closely with other managers to ensure job descriptions are accurate and up to date
  • Maintains well organized, compliant, accurate and confidential personnel records
  • Manages all claims pertaining to workers compensation, unemployment insurance, state disability insurance, etc.
  • Completes government agency reporting requests
  • Works with payroll service to process bi-weekly payroll and ensure all employee information is accurate and up to date and responsible for maintaining the HRIS database
  • Manages all leaves of absence, including keeping the company compliant, determining eligibility, communicating with employees on leave, and maintaining accurate records
  • Prepares necessary paperwork and handles all employee separations
  • Actively helps managers with job postings, interviewing potential candidates, and on-boarding for new hires
  • Finds temporary labor with local staffing agencies as needed
  • Coordinates safety and harassment training regularly or as needed and in compliance with OSHA requirements
  • Assists other managers with administering timely performance reviews
  • Maintains strict company compliance on all things related to local, State and Federal regulations
  • Ensures all employees are working safely, are happy, and enjoy their jobs to the best of our ability
  • Meets regularly with the owners of the company as well as managers to ensure our high standards, commitment to quality, and company culture are maintained on all levels
  • Stays current on local, State and Federal labor laws through professional affiliations, seminars, continuing education/training, and on the advice of consultants and attorneys
  • Attends weekly Management meetings and other department meetings as requested (Windsor and Santa Rosa)
  • All other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has one direct report, Training Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of current wage and hour, sick time, State and Federal mandated leaves, and all other relevant labor laws
  • Excellent professional skills in employee relations, recruiting, hiring, training, and terminations
  • Knowledge of health insurance administration, Section 125 cafeteria plans, 401(k) plans, including maintenance, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements are necessary
  • Knowledge of and experience with mandated leaves of absence
  • Highly organized and excels at maintaining confidential personnel records
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially with all applicants, employees, and owners of the company
  • Outstanding listening and decision making skills
  • Ability to maintain and handle confidential information and situations with discretion and great sensitivity
  • Good reasoning skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Works well under a pressure and is a self-starter
  • Ability to always maintain a high level of attention to detail

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills coupled with the ability to interpret data and make recommendations

  • Experience in handling projects from inception to successful implementation

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Human Resources Management, with at least 3 years in companies with over 100 employees
  • 4 year college degree in Human Resources, and/or HR Certificate, or equivalent
  • Current on the latest employment legislation at local, State, and Federal levels
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus
  • HR experience in California required
  • Restaurant and/or alcohol beverage industry experience a plus
  • MS Word, Excel, and Outlook proficiency
  • Minimum of 2 years HRIS/payroll processing experience; Kronos based system preferred
  • COVID-19 vaccination required, including booster.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Most of the job will be sitting at a desk, typing on a computer keyboard, looking at a computer screen, filing paperwork, writing with a pen or pencil, organizing, and talking to people in person or on the phone.  We have 2 locations so there will be some driving, stairs to climb, walking, and standing.  Occasionally there may be kneeling, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 20 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work
  • Closed toed and heeled shoes are required for safety reasons
