Salvation is a strong dark ale with nice fruity and spicy notes from the Belgian yeast used in fermentation. Big, deep, and rich dark strong ales are perhaps one of the most complex beers. The chocolate and raisin flavors are well-balanced with a lingering dry finish. Perfect on a cold winter night and paired with heartier dishes like stews and roasts. Also excellent with chocolate desserts.
Dark strong ale isn’t really a “style” so much as it is a catchall. It’s a designation that brewers and drinkers use to group Belgian-style beers that are bigger than dubbels and darker than tripels. Strong dark ales and quadruples are essentially siblings, seemingly overlapping in profile.
